Jackson Lewis Sponsors DMEC Conference; Attorneys Showcase workthruIT's® Enhanced Leave-Related Capabilities

WHITE PLAINS, NY (May 10, 2018) Jackson Lewis P.C., one of the country’s preeminent workplace law firms, was proud to be a Partner Level Sponsor at last week’s Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) FMLA/ADA Employer Compliance Conference, an annual event geared towards providing employers with the latest strategies and procedural recommendations to tackle absence, accommodations and disability issues.

"As a longtime member of DMEC, each year I am more impressed with the scope and breadth of topics covered at this conference,” said Denver Principal Megan G. Holstein, who presented on factors that should be considered in determining whether an employer’s disability plan is governed by ERISA regulations and how to operationalize leave management. “The DMEC’s mission to advance strategies and resources that improve workplace productivity by minimizing the impact of absence and disability is one that closely aligns with the work we do every day, counseling employers on how to evaluate the bigger picture when drafting and applying policies and procedures.” Ms. Holstein also participated in the conference’s closing “Ask the Experts” panel, an interactive discussion where attendees were asked to submit their most challenging questions to the panel of FMLA/ADA professionals.

Frank Alvarez, Chair and Founder of the firm’s Disability, Leave and Health Management Practice Group and winner of DMEC’s 2017 Partnership Award for his long-time service to DMEC and its members, commented that this year’s Compliance Conference was the most exciting ever. “We always seem to receive more than we give through the DMEC Conference. Having the opportunity to speak with employers and vendors on the front-lines of disability and leave management compliance efforts is invaluable. We look forward to taking our unique relationship with DMEC and its members to the next level through the technology offerings we are launching."

During the conference, attorneys from Jackson Lewis’ Disability, Leave and Health Management Practice Group, including Mr. Alvarez, Ms. Holstein, Sheri L. Geiger, Joanne Braddock Lambert and Tasos C. Paindiris, showcased recent enhancements to the Disability & Leave Management Suite of tools available via workthruIT®, the firm’s online self-service platform designed to help corporate counsel and human resource executives make better, faster decisions on workplace-related compliance issues.

"The conference was the perfect opportunity to showcase the portion of workthruIT designed to help employers make better, faster and more leave and accommodation decisions. Having 24/7 access to an online suite of tools, including a map of all state and local leave laws, is exactly what DMEC members and employers need to augment their disability and leave compliance efforts,” said Mr. Alvarez. “Sheri Giger’s session on paid sick leave laws, in particular, illustrated the value of having an online database of state and local leave laws. Effectively operationalizing disability and leave issues is the key to success and we were honored to have the opportunity to show so many great companies the new technology tools we are making available. The feedback we received from members was invaluable and we will use it to enhance our digital offerings.”

workthruIT’s enhanced Disability & Leave Management Suite provides users with a variety of decision support tools, including a comprehensive, interactive 50-state and local leave law map and information, on-demand “just in time” training videos, FMLA and ADA leave assessments, a leave chatbot, policy and letter-generating tools and various additional resources designed to help ensure clients’ leave and accommodation administration is compliant with state and federal regulations.
