Biography
Alexandra LaCombe is a principal in the Detroit, Michigan, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. Her practice includes all aspects of corporate U.S. immigration law, with particular focus on regulatory compliance and corporate immigration policy.
Alexandra's experience includes both individual and corporate client matters in various industries including automotive, aerospace, and finance, as well as internationally recognized universities and research institutions. She handles all aspects of corporate U.S. immigration, including nonimmigrant visas and permanent residence sponsorship, as well as extraordinary ability cases in the arts, sciences, and business, outstanding professor and researcher matters, and all types of waivers.
Alexandra represented several international corporations during restructuring, performing due diligence, advising on immigration aspects of the transaction, collaborating with global counsel, and consulting on creation of immigration processes and procedures for the new entities. She regularly conducts internal audits for clients, encompassing I-9 verification, public access files, and other recordkeeping procedures. Alexandra has also represented clients during government audits. She also counsels representatives of foreign companies on U.S. immigration matters, including start-up procedures and commercial contracts in preparation for transfer of foreign personnel to the U.S.
Alexandra decided to become an immigration lawyer because of her own experience of coming to the United States as a refugee from the Soviet Union. During law school, she wrote for and served as an administrative editor at the Columbia Human Rights Law Review and as the Student Editor of the Bulletin of Soviet and Eastern European Law. After graduating from law school, Alexandra started her own practice serving the Eastern European communities of Metro Detroit in asylum and removal defense matters. Her work expanded into business immigration, and she subsequently joined Electronic Data Systems Corporation as immigration counsel. Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Alexandra was a partner at a major global immigration firm for almost two decades, and served as a managing attorney of the Michigan office for several years.
Alexandra is currently an adjunct professor with the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law, teaching Immigration Law within the University's innovative Law Firm Practice curriculum.
