Tom Barnett is a principal in the Nashville, Tennessee, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. He is also the firm’s chief data officer. In this role, Tom oversees the firm’s data scientists and analysts, statisticians, and e-discovery practice. He works closely with our attorneys and business services departments to analyze our data to identify growth opportunities and develop and drive business strategies and objectives.

Prior to joining Jackson Lewis, Tom was at a legal technology services company, where he served as senior vice president and divisional general counsel. In that role, he provided guidance to law firms and corporate legal departments on e-discovery, information governance, and data privacy and security. In addition to his litigation experience, he has served as a neutral, consulting and testifying expert in some of the nation’s largest litigation, regulatory and enforcement actions in the financial services, banking, energy, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, automobile manufacturing and tobacco industries. Tom has helped found and lead several successful e-discovery and data analytics-based startups serving in senior executive roles as well as general counsel.

Tom has authored numerous, widely read articles, white papers and treatises on data science and machine learning in law as well as all phases of e-discovery, information governance and data privacy and security. He is a frequent speaker on AI, machine learning and data analytics topics at academic and professional conferences worldwide and has provided training sessions to judges, in-house and outside counsel, and other legal professionals.
